spacer Treatment

All medications can be helpful. Typically higher doses are accompanied by increased side effects. So, my emphasis is on helping you finding the lowest dose.

Your pain should be reduced with treatment. But you should have increased activity. My focus will be on having you be more functional, more interactive with your family and your interests.

For instance, many patients are started on opiates without knowing the downside of that treatment option. Tolerance, dependence, constipation, mood changes, sleepiness, lack of concentration, addiction, opiate induced hyperalgesia are all associated with opiate and narcotic use.

Many times I opt for reduction or elimination of opiates for chronic pain treatment. In my experience, typically, opiates make things worse!

Opiates can be helpful as long as function increases with their use, that is patients can return to work or have demonstrably increased function while taking them. As a matter of fact, California State Law requires an increase in function in patients treated with opiates / narcotics for non-cancer pain.

Procedures, such as injections and placement of devices, can be helpful as long as they help increase function.

Technology can be helpful. It can be helpful for both the doctor and the patient. I hope to use the latest technology available in order to assist in providing services especially related to education and learning how to better manage chronic pain.
  • e-prescribing (using a secure internet connection directly with participating pharmacies) will be used to the maximum extent possible:
  • allows for better checks of drug/drug interactions, and minimizes errors in the prescribing process.
  • electronic medical records will be used ensuring HIPAA compliance and allowing for more complete documentation.
  • website will be maintained and allow for connectivity to helpful / reputable information and support networks. This should help with the educational aspect of the practice.
